A blogger day of silence

... to honor that last moment of knowing sacrifice by Sgt Rafael Peralta of 1st Platoon, Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, and by proxy all the rest of those who are risking and sacrificing their lives in the armed forces. The story speaks for itself.

Thanks for posting this article. I hadn't seen it.

All soldiers and Marines wonder how they will perform in ground combat when they haven't yet felt the beast's hot breath. I think most worry more about failing the test than facing the fire. The most difficult hypothetical test they worry about is the grenade--would they have the courage to do what Sgt Peralta did? Very few ever face the test, and even fewer make the sacrifice.

Assuming the facts of this report are correct, this is an act that deserves the Medal of Honor, and I certainly hope Sgt Peralta gets it.
